SEIU Local 1 President Tom Balanoff Responds to Guilty Verdict in the Ahmaud Arbery Murder Trial
CHICAGO - The following is a statement from SEIU Local 1 President Tom Balanoff:
“I applaud the jury’s decision; Justice has been served for Ahmaud Arbery’s family. Finding these men guilty proved that our legal system worked. However, SEIU Local 1 will continue to fight for racial justice, and it is up to all of us to work urgently to dismantle systemic biases.
As a union that unites 50,000 working people across racial lines and different backgrounds, Local 1 will continue to work to tear down the walls of racism inherent in our society and advocate for fairness, justice, and dignity both in and out of the workplace. Racism affects all of us. It’s up to all of us to build a better, safer, and more inclusive future; it is the responsibility of organized labor to address both.”
